Jeff Quilty- Chair (CPA Ret.)
Michael McGuigan LLB Notary Public (Deputy Chair)
Michael practised law in Cairns through until 2006 and was a partner with the law firm of Farrellys. Since that time he has stepped out of the legal practice to focus on his own business interests. He is the Chair of our Fit and Proper committee. Michael is a keen fisherman.
Margaret Maunsell CA, CPA, AICD (Secretary)
Margaret joined the Board in August 2009. She grew up in Cairns and obtained her Bachelor of Business degree from our local university, James Cook. After commencing her career in the mining industry, Margaret was Operations Manager of two major tourism companies in Cairns before joining local accounting firm BDO (Nth Qld) where she has been a partner since 1993.
Margaret was also previously a board member and chair of the audit committee at the Cairns Port Authority. As a practising accountant, she is well across the current business conditions in a number of industries around Cairns. Margaret is the Chair of the remuneration committee.
It is no surprise that Angela brings to the Board a wealth of information on the local housing industry. Angela has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades over recent years including the Cairns Business Woman of the Year and Cairns Real Estate Salesperson of the Year (many times).
Michael Wenzel CA CIA RCA BCom
Michael has a wealth of experience across various industries. In 2011 he started Michael Wenzel, a Cairns based firm providing contract Chief Financial Officer and related advisory services. Michael worked in the audit and advisory divisions of KPMG for over 13 years. Michael is also involved in the management and operation of the FNQ Cerebral Palsy Support Group, as treasurer since its incorporation in 2007, providing leadership in finance, compliance and strategy.
Simon has a number of years’ experience in banking and has worked across regional Queensland. Simon arrived in Cairns in 2000 and has owned a number of different businesses, currently operating his own business in Cairns and Darwin.He also works part-time as a Tribunal Member for the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and is a board member of the Southern Queensland and the Central and Northern Queensland Regional Parole Boards. He also volunteers as a director of the Cairns Catholic Education Foundation Limited and is Chairman of St Joseph’s school board in Cairns.
Ben is a Chartered Accountant and is an Executive Manager of the Cairns Private Hospital group. He has a number of years’ experience in both finance and accounting roles in Cairns, including 3 years as Chief Financial Officer at ECU Australia Ltd and 8 years at KPMG.
In 2007 Ben gained international experience when he worked in London on government financial schemes with the UK National Audit Office.
Ben is a strong advocate for Cairns and its continued growth as a thriving, regional economy.
Locally, he’s a great supporter of community organisations and is a committee member and Treasurer of Regional Development Australia FNQ&TS.
When he’s not doing all of that he spends his spare time with his wife and two children.
